Abstract

6051. Birkett, R. W. March 10. Kinematograph apparatus.-In kinematographic projection an incandescent electric lamp is employed having two or more separate filaments controlled by a switch such that the filaments are incandescent successively for a very short period, and the switch works synchronously with the film-driving mechanism so that the illumination takes place only while the picture is stationary. To secure continuous exhibition, a film may be divided into two lengths, each length being exhibited in a projector with an illuminating-system as described above, the projectors being so geared to a common prime mover 34, that while the film in one is being exhibited, the film in the other is being rewound, the illuminating-system being operative in one projector only at a time. The reversal of the prime mover 34 is obtained from the controller 38 which has four positions I, II, III, IV for full speed forward, slow speed forward, slow speed reverse, and full speed reverse, respectively. The controller drum is rotated about an horizontal axis by a lever 39 weighted at one end and automatically operated by nuts 43, 44 deriving their movement from the prime mover 34.
