Closed solid-fuel stoves; air - heating stoves; heat r a d i a t o r s ; baffles.-A stove is built into the wall between two rooms or at the junction of three or more rooms, the heat - radiating surfaces of the stove forming portions of the walls of the rooms. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 3, in which the stove serves for heating three rooms A, B, C, the fire-place 15 is separated from the chamber 16 by a vertical wall 3, and the gases pass first to the top of the chamber 16, and then downwards through a mass of heatabsorbing and radiating material 1. A by-pass for use when starting the fire connects the fireplace direct with the outlet flue 4, and an airheating chamber 10 is built into the brickwork above the fire. An insulating-layer 9 of asbestos board in the walls of the chamber 16 prevents damage to the wall covering. In a modification, the gases pass first through tubes arranged horizontally at the top of the chamber 16, and then downwards through a mass of heat-absorbing material. In another form described for beating rooms on two floors, a portion of the gases from the fire is led to a chamber 16 on the upper floor. In a further modification, boilers are arranged above the fire and in the chamber 16, and the hot water is utilized for heating remote rooms.
