Abstract

Hand-wheels.-A steering or like hand-wheel is constructed with a semicircular portion 12 fixed to the steering-column 10 and the other part 13 of the rim hinged at 15 to the fixed portion, so that it can be turned out of the way, as shown in dotted lines. Three spokes 16 connect the hub and the portion 12 of the rim. The hinged portion 13 is held in working position by a spoke 30 secured to a sleeve 31 mounted on the wheel hub in such a way that the spoke 30 can be turned through a rightangle when the hinged rim 13 is turned back. The spoke 30 is slightly lowered during this turning movement so that it can be under one of the spokes 16. This lowering is effected by a pin on the sleeve engaging a curved slot in the hub. A spring catch 40 holds the spoke 30 in position.
