Abstract
12,867. Bastian, C. O. May 25. [Cognate Application, 22,872/14.] Resistances.-A wire or strip is wound in a single layer on a support of silica, porcelain, slate, or mica-with the adjacent turns in contact, the wire &c. being insulated by applying a coating of an oxide preferably of the metal of the wire, and the ends secured to the support. In the heating-element shown, a nickelchromium wire A is wound on a tubular silica support B, each end of the wire being secured by a twisted wire C and connected with a metal mount D ; or the wire may be wound on a flat sheet. In a modification for use as a resistance unit, the support is flanged at the ends, and the wire secured by passing through holes in the flanges.
