11,712. Spratt, H. J., and Houghtons, Ltd. May 12. Tripod and like stands. - A tripod stand for cameras, theodolites, &c. comprises a supporting- plate 4 locked in any adjusted position by the release of the operating- handles 8, 25, and telescopic splayed legs 2 provided at the upper ends with dished plates secured to similarly dished lugs on the lower member of the tripod head, the lower ends being connected by flexible plates 30. The base 1 carries a rotary disk 7 with an intermediate member 3, which in turn acts as the base member of a disk 16 carrying the plate 4. The disks 7, 16 have locking-clutches operated by handles 8, 25 respectively. The handle 8 is for the purpose of disengaging levers carried by the disk 7 and normally spring-pressed into engagement with the fixed base 1. When it is desired to make an adjustment in the vertical plane, the friction block 18 is first disengaged from a circular recess of the member 3 by forcing a sliding plate 21 against the bowed spring 17 through a lever 24 on the handle 25, as shown.
