Safety retaining - mechanism. - Comprises safety apparatus for pit cages &c. in which additional drums similar to the ordinary winding-drums are provided with safety ropes which suspend the cages when the winding-ropes break. The additional drums are arranged in front of the winding-drums and connected to them by cranks and links. The safety ropes pass over head sheaves situated just below the ordinary head sheaves and are connected to separate bridle chains attached to strong iron bands embracing the sides and bottoms of the cages.
