Abstract
9269. Imray, O., [Farbwerke vorm. Meister, Lucius, & Br³ning]. April 14. Anthraquinonehydroazines.-Vat dyes of the diliydro-1: 2 : 2<1> : 1<1>-anthraquinoneazine series are converted into a finely-divided or amorphous form by treatment with sulphuric acid under such conditions that the dye remains undissolved either as free base or as sulphate; if the sulphate is formed it is dissociated by adding water. If crude vat dye is treated by the process, it may be simultaneously purified from flavanthrene &c. which dissolve in the acid. Suitable dyes for treatment are indanthrene RS or GC, the crude vat dye obtained from the alkali melts, or the coarsely-subdivided forms obtained by blowing air into a vat of the dye, or by dissolving the dye in sulphuric acid and precipitating with water. The process can be carried out by treatment with a . suitable quantity of sulphuric acid monohydrate, fuming sulphuric acid or acid of 60-66‹ BÚ., and then dissociating the sulphate with water; or a weaker acid may be used which does not yield the sulphate, and the separated dye then washed free from acid; or highly concentrated acid may be first used and the mass be then diluted with a little water, so that the impurities remain in solution, white the dye or its sulphate is separated. The production of the finely-divided state may be assisted by the addition of aromatic acids, sodium benzylsulphanilate, &c. Specifications 18,761/10, 20,324/10, and 18,589/11 are referred to. The products are suitable for use in printing or as pigment dyes.
