9110. Gladitz, C. April 9. Filaments; filaments, supports for.-A flexible support consists of beads 1 of silica or the like threaded on a refractory wire; upon this, a coiled filament 5 may be wound, the whole thereupon being bent into a loop, solenoid, conoid, flat-spiral, or other shape. The beads 1 preferably are oblate spheroids, and may be grooved or otherwise shaped to allow the coiled filament to be wound closely. Overheating of the lamp stem or short glass rods into which the flexible wire is sealed may be obviated by coiling the ends 6 of the wire or otherwise providing an extra length for cooling purposes.
