Abstract

8262. Renaux, C. Oct. 9, 1913, [Convention date]. Locks, revolving-barrel; padlocks. - The revolving barrel 3 is mounted in a block 4, which may form the body of a padlock as shown in Fig. 1. The key 6 acts on the pin tumblers 8 through steel balls 1 ; these balls are of uniform size, and the pins 8 are of uniform length. The variations required are obtained by perforating the pins 8 to allow the balls to enter to different depths, corresponding perforations 7 being made in the key. Several sets of pins and balls may be employed; Fig. 15 shows a key for two opposite sets, and Fig. 18 a key for three sets at angles of 120 degrees. " Master-key mechanism.-When a master key is required for a set of locks, one or more of the pin tumblers is omitted from each individual lock; thus a key corresponding to a combination 642/713 can open locks having any smaller combinations, such as 642/71, 42/13, &c.
