Sewing-machines; thread-cutters and threadend holders.-In thread-cutting and holding devices for sewing-machines, wherein the needle and shuttle threads are out, at the end of the stitching operations, by blades 19, 20, Fig. 5, fixed on a swinging arm 21 carrying a sector gear 22 actuated by a rack controlled by the stopping-mechanism, as described in Specification 14,011/05, the shank 59 of a spring nipping-finger 60 is fastened by a screw 57 and pin 58 to the arm 21, the finger 60 being thereby held against the face of the blade 19 from which it is depressed and offset at its outer end. When the blades 19, 20 are advanced at the close of a stitching operation to engage the threads, and are then moved quickly to cut the threads, as described in Specification 4051/04, the shuttle thread is drawn over the tapered point of the blade 19 and between the blade and the finger 60, whereby it is clamped. After the machine has been started, the needle descends and draws the loose end of the needle thread through the needle hole. The sector gear is then actuated, and a barbed thread-drawing arm 26 draws the needle thread between a spring-retracted jaw 28 and a fixed jaw 30, which are then closed. The arm 26 then carries the needle thread over a notched cutting-plate, whereby it is cut, and, after a few stitches have been inserted, the arm 26 moves further and releases the jaw 28 and the needle thread. The shuttle thread is held clamped between the parts 19, 60, until it is withdrawn by the feeding of the work above the throat plate.
