Abstract

12,185. Schoenfeld, M. May 18. Embroidery machines. - In embroidery machines, devices are provided for clamping the threads near the e fabric surface when the needles have completed a design, so that the threads can be cut by hand or by cutters cooperating with the clamps, the thread ends being held until the next stitch has been formed. Various forms of clamps and cutters are described. In the form shown in Fig. 12, the needle thread is clamped between the presserfingers 2, and pivoted arms 11, which are rocked into the position 11<1> by moving the bar 14 longitudinally. A cutting-edge 15 may be provided. The fingers 11 may be parallel with the fingers 2 and rigid with the bar 14. In the form shown in Fig. 10, the finger 4 clamps the thread in the spring loop 9 on the finger 2. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 8, the thread, by the displacements of the fabric, is caught beneath a spring 6 on the finger 2, the severing being effected by a vertically moving cutter 8. Fig. 19 shows a device for clamping and cutting the shuttle threads. The shuttle-race 22 can be drawn back from the work, and the clamping and cutting plate 34, which co-operates with the needle-plate 28, is mounted on an arm 31 of a rotary spindle 30. The clamping and cutting is effected by rotating the arm into the position shown.
