Braiding-machines.-Articles of annular form, such as tyres, are produced by braiding on a removable annular core M, which is hinged at M' as shown and is mounted during the braiding operation upon three wheels E', B', B'. To impart a slow traversing motion to the core, the wheels B<1> are driven from a worm shaft D through worms and worm-wheels D<1>, B<3>. To allow the core to be placed on the wheels E', B', the wheel E' is made vertically slidable. To permit the core with the braided fabric thereon to be removed from the machine, a sector A<3> carrying its part of the raceways and traversing-mechanism is made detachable. The braided fabric is removed from the core for subsequent treatment by slitting it along the inner line of the annulus. The shaft D is driven by bevel-wheels D<3>, G<3>, G', F'. The wheel G<2> is slidable on a vertical shaft G and is supported in the working position by a lever H having an upwardly-extending arm H<2> terminating in a hook H<3> engaged by a swinging dog J pivoted at j. The disengagement of the dog J from the hook H' to stop the machine may be effected by hand, or automatically on the breaking of a carrier yarn, by the corresponding tension weight striking the dog J.
