7170. Berkel, W. A. van. March 21. Cutting slices in succession.-A clamp or press for holding the meat &c. to be sliced in a slicing- machine is constructed with smooth uprights 6, 7, as described in Specification 18,058/13, and the transverse clamping-bar 8 is frictionally held in any position on one of the uprights 6 by moving the bar bodily until the axis of the collar 10 intersects the axis of the upright. One end of the bar 8 is forked to embrace one of the uprights 7, and the other end is bored, preferably in an inclined direction, to receive a collar 10, which may be provided with a soft metal liner 11. When the bar 8 is pressed down on to the meat &c., the reaction, preferably assisted by a spring 14, causes the collar 10 to bind on the post 6. To adjust the bar, it must be turned until the axis of the collar 10 is vertical. Projections 17 serve as thumb and finger pieces in adjusting the bar 8.
