Cutting-appliances.-Comprises detailed improvements in rotary skinning-tools of the kind in which a rotary disk carrying radially adjustable knives is mounted in a casing provided with a handle and is driven by bevelgear connecting the disk to a flexible shaft passing through the handle, and also in which a rotatable shield is provided between the knives and the carcass under treatment, and cover-plate for enclosing the gearing. The present apparatus comprises a main plate c having a split screw socket c<1>, by means of which it can be rotated for adjustment on the upper portion a<1> of the handle. A backplate k, which is fixed to the main plate by screws k<3> acting in conjunction with a registering slot and projection, has a plate p fixed thereto so that the two plates support a freely rotatable serrated shield o below the knives i. By means of a screw m bearing against a hardened washer n, the shield can be adjusted relatively to the knives. The main plate c supports a member f, which provides a double ball bearing for the rotary knife-carrying disk h and the members attached thereto, including the bevel-pinion l which is driven from the flexible shaft b passing through the hollow handle. The gearing is enclosed by a detachable cover-plate d secured to the socket c<1>. The knives i, Fig. 3, are slotted for radial adjustment by means of screws i<2> engaging thickened portions h<3> of the plate h, and may be sharpened by depressmg a projecting spring rod on the outside of the casing, thus pushing the bevelled end e<7> of a hard steel rod into contact with the rotating blades.
