Abstract
5306. Carey, R. F. March 2. Revolving-cylinder pumps.-In pumps having revolving cylinders of any type, the pistons have their working ends of spherical or roller shape. The radial revolving cylinders 2, Fig. 1, are provided with ball pistons 3 with a rigidly attached connecting-rod 4 and gudgeon 5. The gudgeons are journaled in a ring 6 running on fixed eccentric tracks 8, and the rings 10 are carried round by the n. Variable delivery is obtained by band adjustment of the central valve 1. In a modification, variable delivery is obtained by adjusting the position of the eccentric track relatively to the valve. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the positions of the pistons 3 and cylinders 2 are reversed. Admission and delivery of liquid are obtained by passages through the pistons. Fig. 7 shows the application of the invention to the axially-disposed cylinder and swash-plate type of machine, the variable delivery being obtained by adjustment of the valve 1. In a modification, the delivery is varied by altering the inclination of the swashplate. The ring 10 is employed to drive the swashplate 6 by contact with the piston-rod 4. Roller pistons 3, Fig. 10, may be used in cylinders of rectangular section, and any other means may be used to drive the rings 6 at the same speed as the cylinders. The invention is applicable to machines working with liquid or gaseous fluid.
