3827. Carey, R. F. Feb. 13. Revolving - cylinder pumps.- In hydraulic pumps or motors of any revolving - cylinder type, in which balls or rollers are used instead of cylindrical pistons, and are controlled by eccentric tracks, a separate track is provided between the pistons and the eccentric track, and revolving with the pistons. Fig. 1 shows a radial revolving-cylinder apparatus in which the capacity is varied by the adjustment of the central valve 1. The ball pistons 3 bear against a free ring or track 4 which runs on ball bearings 5 on a fixed eccentric track 6. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the revolving ring 12 is overhung on ball bearings 5. The normally fixed tracks 6 are mounted on an eccentric 12<a> which can be adjusted re'atively to the fixed valve 1 in order to obtain variable delivery. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the tracks 6 upon which the rings 4 revolve are connected to a frame 8 with cross-bar 11, by which the tracks 6 can be moved so as to vary their eccentricity and therefore the stroke. In the form shown in Fig. 6, the track 6 is placed in an inclined position, the freely revolving track 4 being also inclined. The path of the balls 3 on the ring 4 is therefore an ellipse so that two strokes of the pistons per revolution are produced. In another modification, Fig. 9, the cylinders are arranged axially, each cylinder having two pistons 3 controlled by oppositely inclined plates 6. The freely revolving plates are shown at 4. The plates 6 may have their inclina. tion varied by turning about trunnions 18, which is done by means of links 19, 20, 21.
