Abstract

5196. Findlay, J. Feb. 28. Filaments of metal are shaped ready to fit on resilient supports, by winding over pins C on two blocks B, B<1>, carried by a brass tube, the lower block B, which is slidable, being clamped during the winding but thereupon being released and if necessary weighted, to stretch the filament, each loop of which is heated by current. For this purpose, alternate pins on the upper block B' are connected by wires G, G' to contact-plates F, F' on a base - piece, which can be put in a holder h a v i n g corresponding contacts, and the apparatus introduced into an inert gas. Terminals are provided for attachment to the ends of the filament, and may be three in number, two being of the same sign, to enable a filament to be wound in either odd or even numbers of loops, or in a single loop. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 13,956/06 and 28,576/11.
