Abstract

5137. Pennell, R. H. L., and Bovine, J. Orten-. Feb. 27. Suction reservoirs.-Relates to means for dealing with liquid which reaches the sump at different levels, and is particularly applicable to sewage disposal systems. Supply-pipes a, b, c, Fig. 3, enter the sump at different levels, and a partition i is provided with a non-return valve h so that the high-level inflow is retained in the sump f as long as its level is higher than that in the sump e. The suction pipe g of the pump enters the sump f, and the pump is started by a float device when this sump is full. Liquid is drawn from the sump e when the level in the sump f falls below that in the sump e. Loss of head through the falling of liquid from the pipe a into a low-level sump is thus avoided. The Provisional Specification also describes an apparatus in which the suction pipe is branched into each of the sumps, each branch having a non-return valve. The high-level sump is also provided with an overflow pipe into the lowlevel sump.
