3679. Baum, J. B. Feb. 12. Chairs ; rails ; chairs with separate jaws ; sleepers, metal.-Relates to securing rails or the meeting ends of two rails upon base-plates. Fig. 1 shows a rail R secured in position on a base-plate 6 supported by a sleeper 12. Fig. 2 shows a rail R with V-shaped ridges 5 cut in staggered fashion on each side of the central longitudinal ridge 4 on the udder surface of the rail base 2. Fig. 6 is a plan of the base-plate 6, showing a central depression 9 and side ridges 8 to fit the ridges 4, 5 on the rail, respectively. Rail brace members 15, secured in position by studs 11, 14 entering holes 10 and another hole shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, hold the rails in position. A double rail brace member is used when joining rail ends. In another form, the base-plate 6 may be omitted, and the ridges 8 formed on the sleeper 12.
