Abstract

813. Ashley, F. M. Jan. 12. Inkstands.-An inkstand, provided with a number of reservoirs each having a dipping-cup, is fitted with a single cover which covers all the reservoirs, but is movable to uncover one dipping-cup at a time. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the cover 7 is provided with a central projection 9, which normally covers the dipping- cup 4 of both reservoirs 2, but, when slid to the right or to the left, uncovers one of the dipping- cups, the motion being limited by the engagement of stops 8, 80 on the underside of the cover with the sides of the reservoirs. Projections 10 are provided on the top of the cover to form a pen-rest. In a modification, the projection 9 is dispensed with, the cover being of sufficient width to cover the dipping- cups, and a single central recess is formed on the side of the cover and normally lies between the two adjacent dipping-cups. In another modification, the dipping-cups are formed at the outer ends of the reservoirs, the cover being of sufficient length just to cover both reservoirs and dipping-cups. The base may be extended to form a series of receptacles for pens, paperfasteners, &c., the walls of the receptacles forming a pen-rack.
