[Cognate Application, 5334/14.] Feed-motions; tone-arms ; planing records; horns, arranging.-Relates to providing a gramophone with a readily detachable apparatus for making original records which can be immediately reproduced. A recording sound-box 1 connected by a tube 2 with the usual swan neck 3 carried by the tone - arm 4, is joined by a link 5 with a screwed rod 8 which feeds it across the record 15. This screwed rod 8, Fig. 4, feeds itself through a threaded single or double mitre-wheel 10 engaging with bevel-wheels 11, 16 attached to spindles 12, 17 adapted to be alternately connected by a spring sleeve 13 and driven from the turntable spindle 14. When the recording is finished, the link 5 is detached from the end 6 of the feedrod 8, which is turned through 180 degrees and the link 5 again connected to the other end 7. On exchanging the recorder 1 for 'a reproducer, the record can be reproduced. In a modification shown in Fig. 3, the tube 2 and recorder 1 are attached to a tube at right-angles to the tone-arm 4, and an additional recording-horn 19 is used, which is removed and the hole plugged when reproducing. The link 5, Fig. 3, has a screw 18 with lock-nut bearing on the tone-arm 4, whereby the pressure of the sound-box on the record can be varied. Fig. 5 shows a planing-device which is attached in place of the sound-box to remove the record. The knife 20 is secured to a block 22 adjustably clamped to a rod 24 which also carries an adjustable weight 26.
