Abstract

191,365. Wildman Manufacturing Co., (Assignees of Howic, K.). Jan. 3, 1922, [Convention date]. Circular machines; stop-motions.-Relates to the provisions of yarn furnishing mechanism combined in one unit with a stop motion and with means for controlling knitting devices such as the presser cams of bearded-needle machines or the stitch cams of latch-needle machines, the arrangement being such that on failure of yarn supply, the consumption of yarn at the feed concerned is arrested and the fabric is not pressed or run off the needles. The invention is described in connection with a machine provided with individual pressers and with bearded needles slidably mounted in a rotary cylinder. Each presser cam 3, Fig. 6, is held in action against the retracting influence of a spring 14 by a catch lever 8, Fig. 1, pivoted to the fixed cam ring 1 and having an arm 10 with a hook 11 engaging a notch 12' in a flange 12 of a sleeve 13 which is seated in the cam ring and is internally screw - threaded to receive a rod 14. The lever 8 when in engagement with the notch 12<1> prevents the sleeve from sliding or turning while the rod 14 is adjustable therein and bears upon a plain pin 15 which holds the presser cam shank 7 in action. Upon failure of the yarn, the catch lever 8 is operated to release the sleeve 13 and to allow the spring 4 to throw the cam 3 out of action. The yarns a, a<1> pass between furnishing wheels 56 - - -58 through fixed guides 18 and through fixed guide eyes on dropper wires 17, 17<1> which fall should either yarn fail. Each wire is carried by a member 38 pivoted at 39 in a ring 41 fixed to the bottom wall of a casing 23. Projections 42 on the members 38 engage pins 43 extending laterally from pawls 37 and when a wire falls the corresponding pawl 37 is turned to engage a toothed ring 36 on the underside of a continuously rotating bever gear 27 which drives the furnishing wheels 56. The pawls are pivoted on arms 46 mounted to swing on vertical shafts 44 the lower ends of which carry arms 45 connected by rods 20 to the catch levers 8 which are thus operated to release the corresponding cams 3. Each arm 46 has a vertical pin 47 extending into recesses in a loose ring 49 the pin 51 depending from which is connected to a rod 19 for operating a stop-motion. The arm 46 which has been deflected is re-set by a spring band 55 passing round projections 53 on all the arms 46. Each furnishing wheel 56 is broad enough to drive the two wheels 57 and 58 which are placed side bv side. The teeth of the wheels 56 - - 58 are somewhat long so as to measure off the yarns which pass between them. One of the yarns of each pair may be a plating yarn. The wheels 57, 58 are carried by a bell crank arm 62, the other arm 63 of which is held against an adjusting nut by a spring which permits the passage of lumps &c. of the yarn. The wheel 57 is also adjustable relative to the wheel 58, for plating purposes, and is mounted on an eccentric sleeve 72 turning on a reduced part of the pin 71 on which the wheel 58 is mounted. A finger piece 74 normally locked by a nut 73 allows the sleeve 72 to be turned for adjustment. The wheels 56 - - - 58 may be provided with yarn furnishing teeth d which do not function as driving teeth, the driving being effected by means of teeth c.
