Abstract

28,904. Bousfield, J. E., [Pintsch Akt.- Ges., J.]. Dec. 15. Hydrogen.-In the manufacture of hydrogen from ferruginous material by alternate oxidation with steam and reduction, briquettes are employed for lining and building the reaction chambers, which are composed of oxides or carbonates of iron, together with oxides or carbonates of such metals as do not form hydroxides in contact with water, particularly magnesium, barium, strontium, aluminium, or a mixture of the oxides or carbonates of calcium and magnesium in which the magnesium compound must exceed 75 per cent of the mixture. The briquettes are produced by mixing ground natural or artificial ferric oxides, as pure as possible, with ground natural or artificial carbonates or oxides of magnesium, strontium, barium, &c., including aluminium hydroxide, stirring the mixture with water to form a paste, pressing in moulds, drying, and firing before use.
