Wireless telegraphy.-In a method of eliminating the effects of atmospherics, the natural frequency of the receiving - aerial A is made slightly different from that of the signal waves, and the beats produced by the free and the forced oscillations in the aerial are rectified by a detector C, connected to a circuit D tuned to the beat frequency. The oscillations produced by an atmospheric last a very short time, and in order that they shall not affect the circuit tuned to the beat frequency, the latter frequency may be made above the audible limit, and the signals may be made audible by the use of rectifiers or tickers, or by the local generation of a frequency which will interfere with the inaudible frequency, and produce beats of an audible frequency. When the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 is used to receive continuous waves, locally-produced oscillations of a frequency preferably equal to the natural frequency of the aerial, are arranged to beat with the forced oscillations due to the signal waves.
