Heels.-To prevent a wooden heel. from splitting, a piece b of wood, leather, or other strengthening- material, of sufficient size to take the whole of the attaching-nails c, is let into a closed recess on the inner surface or seat a<2> of the heel; preferably, the piece b is of three-ply wood, which is glued into the heel under pressure. The seat a<2> may consist of a piece of leather placed upon a flat surface of the heel proper. Specification 13,969/13 is referred to.
