Abstract
24,424. Brookes, A. Oct. 28. Drawings to Specification. Embossing.-Flat prints are embossed in imitation of oil paintings &c. by means of a die prepared as follows. A transparent sheet, such as glass, celluloid, &c., is placed on a copy of the print and coated with paint, such as ordinary artists' oil-paint or pasteloid, and the required lines &c. representing the relief effects are then scratched through the paint to the transparent surface by means of a handtool having a single point or a row of points. This plate is used as a photographic negative or transparency for the photo-production of the relief block or matrix in known manner and the prints are embossed by this block or matrix. Canvas texture is produced on the prints (1) by using a transparent plate lined in representation of canvas markings, in conjunction with the paint negative described, when printing to produce the relief block, or (2) by pasting and pressing canvas on the back of the print. The embossing block or matrix may be flat or cylindrical.
