Abstract

24,382. Haddan, R., [Kaumagraph Co.]. Oct. 27. Feeding webs.-In a machine for applying transfer stamps to fabrics, particularly to the selvedges of fabrics passing through clothmeasuring or other machines, the tape carrying the transfer stamps is fed forward at intervals with the continuously running cloth between the impression members, one of which is heated. The feeding- mechanism of the tape is driven bv a continuously - revolving brake band, which at intervals is caused by a cam to grip a brake drum, and intermittently drive the tape feed-rolls. In one form of mechanism, shown in Fig. 1, the cloth passes along a table, under the impression roll f<1>, and above a presser - roll f heated electrically or otherwise, and mounted in a frame f<3> pivoted at f<4> and swung by an eccentric pin f<5> so as to bring the transfer strip, which passes over the roll f, at intervals into engagement with the fabric. At such times the strip is fed forward by feedrolls e<2>, e<1>, e<3>, and the roll f is also rotated, at the same speed as the fabric, by gearing from an internal gear c<1> on a brake drum c loosely mounted on the shaft b, and having a second brake drum attached thereto surrounded by a brake ring d. This ring has a loose shoe d<10> therein, acted on by a cam d<3> having a lever d<5> with a projecting tappet d<9>, and the ring is continuously rotated by a spring d<7> engaging the hub of the lever d<5> and attached to a continuously revolving arm on the shaft b. The drum c is normally held stationary by a brake c<4> pressed against the drum by a spring c<20> and having an adjustable projecting stop c<6>, but at one portion of the revolution of the brake ring d the tappet d<9> engages the stop c<6>, and thus simultaneously releases the brake c<4> and causes the shoe d<10> to grip the second brake drum and drive it, thus causing the right amount of the tape to be fed. The transfer tape passes up between the rolls e<1>, d<3>, under the guide f<7>, over the roll f, and between the rolls c<1>, c<2>. In a modified form, shown in Fig. 6, the heated presser is a flat smooth plate h<2>, and the impression member h<4> is driven and has a swell h<5> to engage the cloth and the transfer tape. The transfer tape is pulled over the presser member h<2> by the roll h<4> and the cloth, and also by tensioning - rolls i<5>, i<6>, continuously revolved from the shaft b and having a suitable slipping grip on the tape, which is fed at the right intervals by the rolls i, i<3> actuated from the drum c as before.
