Abstract

Guards.-The flat knife-guards arranged at the side of the disk-knives of slicing-machines are arranged so as to be readily removable for cleaning purposes without the aid of tools. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the upper end of the guard E carries a pin 4, which enters a slot in the flattened end of a rod 1 attached to an adjustable bracket F, and is secured by a milled nut. The lower end of the guard E is slotted and fits between disks over a pin 9, Fig. 2, in either of two positions. A removable washer permits the upper end of the guard to be adjusted to or from the knife. In other forms, a pivoted catch arm or a butterfly-nut retains the top of the guard in position in a forked bracket. As shown in Fig. 10, the guard E may be secured at the top and bottom by spring pawls 20 pressed outwards by push-pins 21. The lower end of the guard may have a vertical pin 26 entering a socket, Fig. 12, and may be retained by a butterfly-nut, a screw pin 28, or by a spring-pressed pin. A T-shaped head on the lower part of the guard may be arranged to enter a keyhole slot in the bracket and be secured by a screw pin. The top of the guard E may be bent over and formed into a vertical rectangular pin 41, Fig. 19, adapted to engage either of two sockets 43 in the bracket F.
