Abstract

23,650. Tourtel, J. M., and Doubleday, V. C. Oct. 18. Reciprocating-punch machines.-Relates to the general construction of tune-sheet perforating-machines of the kind wherein the sheet is passed from one roller 5 to another and beneath a single punch 19 which is adjustable transversely of the sheet, its adjustment being facilitated by a music scale fixed across the machine. The punch 19 is mounted on a carriage 17 provided with rollers adapted to run on a bridge 15, detachably held by catches 27, and is depressed against the action of a spring by a lever 20. A fixed die-plate 13 extends beneath the bridge and has an aperture 14 for each note of the scale. Correct positioning of the punch is ensured by a ball-detent 23 pressed by a spring 24 into engagement with a rack 16 fixed on the bridge 15, and also by a projection on the side of the punch entering between the teeth of the rack. The carriage 17 is moved along the bridge by means of a handle 22, and a pointer 35 on it coacts with interchangeable music-scales, of which one is provided for each key, as shown in Fig. 6. Each roller 5 is supported at one end by a keyed spindle 7<a>, up to which it is pressed by a spring bearing 30 at the other end, and is turned by a hand-wheel 7 braked by a block 10 carried by a spring 9. Each spindle 7<a> is carried by an externallythreaded sleeve 28 adapted to be adjusted in the bracket 4 and fixed by a set-screw, thereby effecting the longitudinal adjustment of the rollers.
