Oval-link chains. - In chains in which the ends of the round iron or other material forming the chain-link is first flattened and bent inward, like hooks, and then bent sideways in opposite directions so as to form two interlocking pieces, the joint being subsequently compressed, the flattened ends 7, 8 are extended in such a manner that the overlapping pieces 2, 3 enclose three-quarters of the neck of the adjacent link end. The overlapping pieces constitute reinforcements on the inside of the link, and form a V-shaped wearing-notch 4 into which the next link in the chain is guided, preventing any lateral displacement thereof. The twisted link ends are preferably swaged to a substantially uniform section, and portions of the interlocked ends may be welded together.
