Abstract

21,979. Fritz, R. C. Sept. 30. Washing-machines with axially-moving plungers; starching.-In a posser washing-machine applicable also for dyeing, dry-cleaning, and starching, a perforated concave plate 17 is reciprocated vertically within a receptacle 1 and carries a relatively 'movable imperforate plate 18 which closes the perforations in the plate 17 during the up-stroke but uncovers them during the down-stroke. The posser may be operated by a crank-shaft 8, Fig. 1, and in this case the receptacle 1 is pivotally mounted and the connecting-rods 12 pass through glands in the cover 14. The clothes are laid on a loose perforated false bottom 3, and a resilient device such as that shown in Fig. 8 may be interposed in the connecting - rods. These rods may be pivotally attached to the plate 17 as shown in Fig. 6, a loose sleeve normally keeping the joint rigid. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, a single connecting- rod 12 is detachably secured to a lever 22 oscillated by a pivoted handle 27 and carrying a counterweight 25.
