Type-lever machines.- Relates to type-lever machines in which the actions are provided with sublevers arranged so that the links which connect the sub - levers to the type-levers are normally in alinement with the pivots of their sub levers (1) The sub - levers C consist of right - angled bell - cranks having unequal arms, the longer arms C<1> being connected hy links B to the heels A' of the type-levers A, and the shorter arms C' being connected by links D to a n g l e d key - levers E pivoted on a rod E<2> which is at a higher level than the pivots A<2> of the central type - levers. Normally the type-levers are inclined backwards at 45 degrees and are at right-angles to the rear ends of the key-levers ; further the links D are at rightangles to the short arms C<2> of the sub-levers and to the rear ends of the key-levers. The action gives an accelerated motion to the type-levers, the links B being nearer to the pivots A' at the beginning of the stroke than during the development of the stroke, and being brought at the end of the stroke approximately normal to the arms C'. The links B, in the arrangement shown, are farthest from the pivots A<2> at the middle of the stroke and then approach nearer the pivots. The type-levers strike on a platen mounted on an inclined carriage G', the writing being visible. (2) To accommodate the rear ends of the key-levers, the framework H<1> is provided with a vertical extension H which is bent over at the top to meet the inclined framemember supporting the carriage-base.
