Abstract

19,670. Siegwart, R., Siegwart, G., and Siegwart, K. H. Feb. 17, [Convention date]. Open-hearth furnaces.-A reversible openhearth furnace for the melting or smelting of glass, metals, and ores is heated by liquid fuel which is vaporized in open trays d placed so as to be swept by hot air from the regenerators, and to be subjected to heat radiated from the furnace. The fuel is supplied to one or other of the trays, according to the direction of the gases, from a tank h, which may be heated either by waste gases or by radiation. Two or more superposed trays may be provided at each bridge, the lower ones catching the overflow from the uppermost.
