Abstract
19,427. Watford Engineering Works, and Paramor, J. Aug. 27. [Cognate Application, 24,930/13] Pulping - engines. - In apparatus for pulping, disintegrating, and kneading waste paper, pulp, half - stuff, esparto, &c., comprising a steeping- chamber b and a cylindrical pulping-barrel a, string, rope, &c. is collected by stirrers h, the material is passed to the pulping - barrel by a worm or screw f, and the diameter of the part a<2> adjacent to the steeping - chamber is made greater than that of the remainder of the barrel, more space being thus provided for the accumulation of the string &c. and the period of continuous operation of the machine being greatly increased. The arms e of the steeping-chamber may be mounted on a hollow shaft d<1>, Fig. 3, and driven at a different speed from that of the shaft d by means of chain gearing g<2>, d<2>, d<3> from the shaft g. The outlet m may be connected with the hopper c or with the steeping-chamber b and a continuous circulation obtained.
