Abstract

19,335. Hammer, L. March 29. [Addition to 16,149/12.] Clutches and speed-varying mechanism. - In the apparatus described in the parent Specification, the pipe connecting the suction and delivery pipes of the primary pump, and forming a by-pass circuit, contains a complete valve chamberwith a non-return valve closing against the suction pipe. The pressure and suction p i p e s 10, 11, Fig. 1, of the pump 1, are connected by the pipe 86 provided with non-return valve 87. The pressure and suction pipes 10, 11, cross one another in the reversing and throttling cock 88. The pipes 114, 115, and 86 cross one another in the same plug cock 117. The motors 100, 101 are connected as shown. A pipe 104, closed by a valve 105, leads from the suction pipe 11 to the high-pressure vessel 106, which is connected by the pipe 107 with the low-pressure vessel 110. From this vessel, a pipe 111 with non-return valve 112 leads back to the delivery pipe 10. A connecting-pipe 118 with valve 119, is also provided. On turning the cock 117 so as to open the passages through 114, 115, and close the pipe 86, liquid flows from reservoir 106 into the pump, and back to the reservoir 110, thus rotating the pump and starting the driving-engine. When the cock 117 is closed, the pressure liquid from the pump will act upon the motors 100, 101. If the motors tend to overrun the pump, no reaction of liquid upon the pump occurs, the valve 87 opening the by-pass 86. A braking effect is obtained by reducing the pump delivery gradually to zero, and at the same time gradually closing the cock 88. During this condition of running of the motors, liquid is delivered through pipes 98, 99, to the vessel 106, and then to the vessel 110 and back to the motors. A reverse drive can be obtained by adjusting the cock 88.
