Abstract

Conductors; armatures and field-magnets, cooling; cores.-The conductors, one or more of which are of tubular form, are arranged one within the other, with insulation between them. Fig. 1 shows an example in which a tubular conductor a encloses a thicker tubular conductor b, insulating-coverings c, c' being provided. Cooling-air may be passed through the conductor b, and, if desired, through an additional airtube e, which may be electrically connected with the conductor a or b. A tunnel d<2> may also be provided for cooling purposes. To facilitate construction, the outer conductor may be in the form of a split tube and be drawn around or lapped over the inner one, the edges ax being free. The parts of the conductors outside the slots are stripped of insulation, as shown in Fig. 5, and the end connexions f are looped around them and sweated on. Stranded wires may be arranged in one or more layers on the outer or inner sides of the conductors a, b. The inner conductor may be stranded, and the outer conductor made of plain tubular section.
