18,279. Hart, A. M. Aug. 11. Coating webs. - In a machine for coating fabrics, paper, felts, films, &c. with liquid or semi-liquid materials, the fabric, after being coated on the upper side, is passed over one blade of a knife or scraper having a number of blades b, c, d, e of different cross-sections, any one of which may be brought into the operative position. The blades may be heated or cooled, say by making them hollow and joining them detachably to a source of hot or cold fluid. The edges may also he heated by means of electric current passing along wires arranged in the blades. In one form, the blades are carried by a spider revolubly mounted on an axis a, the operative blade being fixed in position by means of a forked member k engaging a pin on the spider. The fork k is adjustably mounted so that the blade may be adjusted about the axis a.
