July 22 Ratchet and rigid - jaw wrenches. - A ratchet wrench has a pawl 12 of spring material secured at one end 13 to the body of the wrench and engaging teeth 10 on a sleeve 6 at the other end, an adjustable screw 15 engaging the pawl between the ends to allow the spring pressure on the teeth to be adjusted, and a ring 8 screwed in a removable handle plate 2 and engaging a reduced end of the rotatable toothed sleeve 6. In a modification shown in Fig. 5, the rotatable sleeve is mounted in an arm 20 of an ordinary brace and a catch 22, pivoted on the removable plate 24, is adapted to be turned into engagement with the series of notches 23 to lock the rotatable sleeve against rotation. A socket reducer or attachment, shown in Fig. 9, may be inserted in the wrench openings and is adapted to be held in place by a spring 27.
