Abstract
16,797. Newton, C. A., Newton, R., and Newton, H. July 22. Ventilators, terminal.-In apparatus comprising a main duct through which a current of air is maintained and which is fitted with intake openings for foul air from workshops &c., the intakes are fitted with a collecting-box a having pivoted therein vanes or louvers c which are adjustable to control the amount of opening and are so arranged as to admit the foul air with a minimum of interference with the main current in the duct. The louvers are connected so as to move together, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, by a link f connecting the cranked ends e of their projecting trunnions. The amount of opening is set by means of a catch g pivoted to the edge of one louver and adapted to engage in one of a number of holes in the next, and the maximum opening is determined by the engagement of an adjustable screw i with a stop j. The vanes do not project into the main duct. Fixed vanes h are arranged at the ends of the box. In a modification, the vanes are connected by a link pivoted to their outer edges and are operated by an arm on the projecting end of one of the trunnions.
