Abstract
15,612. Basset, L. P. July 7. Calcining and rotary furnaces.-In process for the manufacture of cement by heating together in a furnace a mixture of calcium sulphate, coal, and clay, an additional quantity of air is supplied to the escaping furnace gases for oxidizing the gaseous sulphur compounds to sulphur dioxide. In a rotary furnace, the air may be supplied through a pipe c, near the gas-outlet, from a box d rotating with the furnace; or through a pipe projecting into the furnace from the outlet end and bent to deliver the air in the same direction as that taken by the furnace gases; or the additional air may be supplied to a combustion chamber connected with the furnace.
