Mineral and tar oils, purifying.-A mixture of paraffin and unsaturated hydrocarbons such as olefines, obtained by cracking, is fractionated to obtain fractions in each of which the olefines present have the same number of carbon atoms. The fractions are then treated with halogen or halogen-yielding substance in quantity only sufficient to saturate the unsaturated hydrocarbons, the resulting dihalogenparaffins being separated by fractionation from accompanying paraffins, which may be used as fuel.
