Abstract

[Cognate Application, 19,206/13.] Gas supply.-In an incandescent gas lamp in which the gaseous mixture is burnt in a practically closed envelope of small dimensions, such as is described in Specification 1348/12, the walls of the envelope being composed of materials susceptible to the action of iron carbonyl and other impurities, the impurities are removed from the gas just before its admixture with air by subjecting the gas to an attemperated heating. In one construction, part of the gas pipe comprises a coil 1 arranged between the outer casing 6 and the flue 5 and in thermal contact with the latter, and the mantle is enclosed in a closely - fitting globe 9 of highly refractory material, such as fused silica. The burner is provided with an enlargement 7, for example as described in Specification 28,360/07, for enabling the gaseous mixture to be heated.
