Abstract
13,938. Sotton, C. July 16, 1912, [Convention date]. Beam compasses.-A micrometer gauge, applicable also as a beam compass, may be fitted with terminal prolongations and arms of various shapes to enable the gauge to be used for different purposes. The graduations are arranged around a collar D secured to a nut C which is maintained against one end of a cylinder B by a screwed sleeve E and collar G and works on a screwed piston A slidable but not rotatable in the cylinder B. A split ring H, having a zero line, is rotatably mounted on the collar G. The outer ends of the cylinder and piston receive the various prolongations and arms enabling the apparatus to be used for measuring, for example inside and outside diameters and, as shown in Fig. 3. as a beam compass. A rod may be arranged slidably in guides secured to the arms, which are thus kept rigid and in the same plane. A handle may be attached to the apparatus by a screwed sleeve V and split ring K.
