Abstract

13,503. Tanczer, J. June 11. Cultivators.-In a motor cultivator in which the shanks of the cultivating-tools are pivotally mounted on a rotary drum, special means are provided for supporting the shanks and limiting their movements, for making them flexible laterally, and for facilitating the penetration of the tools into the ground. The. drum is mounted on a pivoted frame and is driven from the motor by a chain. It consists of two disks 5, Fig. 6, connected by rods 7 on which the tool shanks 8 are pivotally mounted. The shanks are yieldingly held in position by pivoted bolts 10 passing through angle-bars 12 and provided with adjustable springs on both sides of the bars. The backward movements of the shanks are limited, and the tools positively forced into hard ground, by the bars 12, or by adjustable or interchangeable bars 21 attached to them. The depth of work is regulated by means of a broad adjustable roller. The cultivating-tool shown in Fig. 2 is rigid in the direction of movement, and consists of blades 24 fixed on a laterally flexible plate 23 which is pivoted at 24<1> between two plates 22 projecting from a sleeve 9. The plate 23 is slotted at 27 to pass the joint pin 26 of the spring bolt 10, and is secured by a wooden pin at 28, which breaks when the resistance is excessive. Plate springs 29 may be employed to strengthen the plate 23 laterally. In a modification, the plate 23 is double and carries a cutting-wheel to facilitate penetration into the ground.
