4 Claims. 1 This invention relates to improvements in earth scarifying equipment.
The primary object of this invention is the pro- I vision of a scarifier attachment for use upon road scrapers, graders, or bulldozers which is relatively economical to construct, light in weight and may with facility be attached or detached with respect to a scraper or grader blade structure.
A further object of this invention is the provision of an improved scarifying attachment for road scrapers which by reason of its securement and attachment to the scraper blade of a grader enables a controlled depth of earth or road penetration. I
A further object of this invention is the provision of an improved scarifying attachment for road scraper or grader blades which is relatively light in weight and may remain affixed to the scraper or grader when the latter is being used for purposes other than scarifying.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following detailed description.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts thruout the several views,
Figure 1 is a perspective view, partly in section, showing the improved attachment in relation to a scraper or grader blade; the view showing a a detached detail of a scarifying tool and its associated parts.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the improved scarifier attachment mounted upon a scraper blade.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary perspective view, partly in section, showing adjusting means for rigidly and securely attaching the sca-rifier equipment upon the scraper or grader blade.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown only a preferred embodiment of the invention, the letter A may generally designate a bulldozer, scraper or grader of any approved type, which includes a scraper blade B of conventional nature, adapted to receive the improved scarifier attachment 0.
In the preferred instance, the scarifler attachment is used wih the type of scraper or grader shown, which'includes the endless type tractor tread IIJ mounted upon roller drive means H. The scraper or grader includes a main force receiving frame'structure l2 forwardly projecting from the machine, having the scraper blade B secured thereto at l3, in conventional manner. The scraper blade as is usual, is concavo-convex in vertical cross section and extends for any desired width upon the machine. It includes a lower steel hardened scraper piece M, as is usual.
Referring to the improved scarifier attachment C, the same includes a concavo-convex elongated supporting body 29, which may be a casting or of other fabrication. It has the same curvature as the blade B and is adapted to fit upon theforward concave face of the latter. At its lower margin edge the supporting body is provided with a rearwardly and upwardly inclined flange 2|, providing a V-shaped socket 23 adapted to snugly receive the lower marginal portion of the blade B and portion 14 of the latter. The upper marginal portion of the supporting body 20 preferably extends above the top edge of the blade B and there is provided with a series of pairs of lugs 25 and 26 in spaced relation. These lugs are transversely apertured and adapted to receive pins 21 for attachment of links 28 therebetween. The links 28 may be secured at their rear ends by pins 29 to the upper apertured ends of lugs 30 and 3|. The latter form part of structures 32 which are welded or otherwisesecured to the upper rear surface of the blade B; the lugs 30 and SI having reinforcing connecting portions 34 therebetween which may be integral or otherwise rigid therewith and provide surfaces against which the adjusting and tightening bolts 40 may bear. A bolt 40 is screw threaded in opening M of each of the links 28, between the ends thereof.
These bolts are uprightly positioned and the sur-- facing of the portion 34 against which they bear may be at right angles to the axes thereof. Lock nuts 42 are provided for locking the adjustment.
The application of the supporting frame 20 upon the blade B will be apparent from the foregoing. The frame 20 is applied to the concaved side of the blade B; the lower marginal portion of the latter being socketed in the groove 23 provided therefor. Of course the links 28 are thereafter secured by theirpins 21 and 29 in the relation shown and the bolts 40 tightened against the portion 34 of the structure 32 to securely and margins thereof. The extensions 50 may be provided inany desired number and may be integral, welded or otherwise secured upon-the frame 20.
The scarifler attachment is provided with a series of identically formed scarifying tools forwardly.
3 each of which includes an upper shank 6| adapted to be socketed in the opening 52 and a lower shank portion 84 formed at an angle of less than 180 with respect to the shank 6! and extending The lower ends of the shanks 64 have scarifying heads 66 thereon, of any desired .shape.
The scarifying tools at are secured in their sockets by means of pins 63 which are slipped thru openings 68 in the extensions 50 and also socketed in the groove 69 provided in'the shank portion 6! of these tools. the scarifying tools from dropping out of their sockets and indeed they are rigidly and snugly scarifying operation, since this is regulated en tirely thru conventional regulation of the scraper or grader blade. The parts may be readily assembled or detached, since they are all accessible forwardly of the machine and have no other connection to frame attaching parts than to the blade, as above described. 7
Various changes may be made in the forms of invention herein shown and described without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scopefiof the following claims.
I claim:
1. In combination with an earth scraper having a scraper blade, rearwardly extending lugs upon the upper marginal portion of the blade, an elongated scarifier frame having a socket at the lower margin thereof to receive the lower marginal portion of the blade therein, links pivotally connecting the lugs of said blade with the upper marginal portion of said frame, securing and tightening means adjustably carried by said links in cooperative action against the upper portion of said blade for securely socketing the lower marginal portion of the blade in the "lower socket of said frame and otherwise rigidly securing the frame upon said blade in detachable relation thereon, and scarifying extensions carried by said frame.
2. In combination with a' road grading ma.- chine having a forwardly extending frame secured scraper blade horizontally elongated and of concavo-convex vertical section, said blade and the rear surface thereof at the upper'marginal portion thereof having a plurality of pairs of lugs thereon, a scarifying attachment including an elongated frame which is concavo-convex in vertical cross section for snug fitting against the concaveface of the blade, a socket provided at the lower'marginal portion of said frame for re- The pins 63 prevent ceiving the marginal portion of the blade therein, a plurality of pairs of lugs upon the upper marginal portion of said frame in complementary relation to the pairs of lugs of said blade, a link between each pair of lugs of the blade and the complementary pair of lugs upon the frame, pin means detachably connecting the ends of each of said links to said pairs of lugs, a substantially vertically positioned tightening bolt threaded in each of said links having a lower end for adjustable clamping against the upper blade structure whereby upon tightening the same the frame will be rigidly and firmly secured upon the blade structure with the lower marginal portion of the blade firmly socketed in the socket provided in the lower marginal portionof saidframe, and

3. In combination with a road grading machine having a transversely disposed scraper blade thereon, a scarifying attachment including a frame socketed at its lower end for fitting upon the lower margin ofsaid blade, a link, means pivotally connecting said link to the upper portions of both said attachment and said blade,
and an adjusting screw adjustably threaded upon said link between the pivots in position to engage the top portion of said blade for tightening the position of said frame upon said blade, and a scarifying tool carried by said frame and extending therebelow.
4. In combination with a road grading machine having an elongated transversely disposed scraper blade thereon of vertical concave-convex cross section, an elongated frame of concavoconvex cross section, extending substantially the length of said blade and being adapted to interfit at its convex side in surface contact with concave surface of the concavo-convex cross section of said blade, socket means at the lower margin of said frame for socketing upon the lower margin of said blade, adjustable connecting means at'the upper margins of said blade and frame for connecting the frame upon said blade in'concavo-convex socketed relation therewith,
