Seed and like distributors. - Seeds are deposited at regular intervals by a continuously moving machine provided with drills or dibbles which are carried by members moving in a curved track in the machine, and are inserted into the ground and withdrawn in a vertical direction without horizontal movement relatively to the ground. The dibbles 23 are mounted on removable transverse bars which are carried round by slotted arms 14 projecting from a rotary shaft 11. The bars are provided with rollers running in cam-tracks 26 which are so shaped that the backward motion of the dibbles relatively to the main frame 7 while in the ground is equal to the forward motion of the machine. The main wheel 1 drives the shaft 11 by means of a clutch and endless chains 9. The arms 14 are fastened to disks 13 by screws passing through holes 16. Several series of holes may be provided so that the number of arms 14 and dibbles 23 may be varied to regulate the distances between the seeds. The dibbling-mechanism is adjustable vertically by means of a handwheel, a ratchet, bevel-gearing, and racks and pinions. The dibble tubes 23 have removable points provided with a door 36, which is normally held closed by a rod 38 and spring 39, but is opened while the dibble is in the ground by the rocking of a spindle on which is a cam 44 engaging with the rod 38. The spindle is rocked by the engagement of projections with stops 32. The tubes 23 are fastened to boxes 22 containing hoppers or funnels 43 which receive the seeds from the seed-boxes 45 as they pass under them. The seeds are delivered from the boxes 45 by cup disks driven by chain gearing. The cups are interchangeable and correspond in number with the dibbles 23, and each lifts one, two, or more seeds and delivers them over an incline into a tube 53. The covers of the boxes 45 are provided with spring latches or other means for taking up play. The machine is steered by a projection on the pivoted draught-pole jointed to a bar 70, which is connected to arms 71 projecting from the vertical shafts 72 of the front wheels 74. The seat standard 77 is mounted on a resilient cover 75 over the main wheel 1.
