[Cognate Application, 17,248/13.] Reel &c. holders.-A holder for strip material, such as ribbon &c., comprises a box containing a reel or drum 2, Fig. 1, rotatably mounted in an opening at one side for delivery of the material 1, the turning of the drum being effected by means accessible from the outside of the box, which is provided with a lid 7 having one or more slots 8 for the egress of the material, the lid being laced or otherwise secured to the body of the box when desired. The means for effecting the rotation of the drum may consist of a winding-knob, shown at 3, Fig. 1, as formed integral with the drum, a narrow neck between the knob and the drum resting in an open-ended slot in the side of the box and serving as a bearing to support the drum. In place of the rigid turning means described above, a hinged, pivoted, or collapsible handle or thumb-piece adapted to screw or fit into the drum, as shown in Fig. 4, may be employed; or a bowed wire handle 15, Fig. 10, mounted in a flanged metal cap 17 fitted into the end of the drum, which may be cylindrical as shown, may be used. Fig. 6 shows a construction, in which the drum is supported also upon a boss 22, shown as formed with a flange 23, and secured to the rear wall of the box. Turning is effected in this case by a fixed winding-key 19 having the ends 4 flattened to lie close against the wall of the receptacle.
