12,330. Lowden, W. H. May 27. Shaft couplings; universal joints.-Relates to shaft couplings for connecting shafts in confined spaces, for instance the clutch and gear-box shafts in motor-vehicles. Hexagonal or similar collars b, e are secured on the shafts a, d, and telescopic parts k, n are inserted between the shaft ends in a collapsed condition and then opened out so that housings m, p of suitable shape fit over the collars b, e. A cotter s holds the parts in position. The collars e are rounded to allow for any relative movement of the shafts. A spring t prevents rattling during longitudinal movements of the shaft. A lubricator mav be secured on the part k. Packing-washers z are provided.
