Abstract

Tram carriages for mills and workshops.-A truck for transporting bricks to or from a drying- chamber &c. comprises wheels a supporting a platform b carrying a central post c surrounded by telescopic tubes d, e on which slide sleeves g carrying at each side platforms h, the uppermost sleeve being fixed to the tube e. By means of pinions o, engaging fixed racks m, and racks q yoked together at their upper ends and secured to the tube e, the upper platform is raised, and lifts the lower platforms successively through links r embracing studs on the platforms. In use, the platforms h are first raised and run towards shelves of bricks i so that the platforms h are inserted beneath the shelves. The pinions are then further operated to raise the platforms and lift the shelves, after which the truck is withdrawn, the platforms h are swung round on a platform l mounted on ball bearings k, and the other set of platforms h are brought into operation. The telescopic tubes d, e, Fig. 3, which are of the same diameter, are made with elongated slots f forming tongues which interengage as shown. The platforms may be operated by worm gear or lazy-tongs.
