Gas, supplying by meter.-A screwed spindle a, Fig. 4, which is adapted to be traversed in reverse directions to open and close the valve by the prepayment and meter mechanisms respectively, is connected to the coin-driven wheel d<1> by a free-wheel device so as to prevent back movement of the parts. The device comprises a fixed annulus c', Fig. 7, secured to the casing b, Fig. 4, and provided with recesses c<2> containing rollers or balls c<3>, and a cylindrical flange d, Fig. 4, which is adapted to enclose the annulus and forms part of the wheel d<1>. The price-change plate e carries the coin slot e<5>, Fig. 10, and is secured in the desired position by means of a screw b<3>, Fig. 4, and a stud b<4>, both being adapted to engage in holes e<1> formed in a lateral flange e<2> of the plate, the screw b<3> being hidden by a seal b<6>. Coin action, mechanical connexion.-The inserted coin couples a pocket f<1> carried by a disk f fast on the spindle of the operating- handle c<3> to the teeth d<5> of the wheel d<1>. Coin-slit closing-devices.-When the maximum number of coins has been inserted, the screwed spindle a engages the inturned end f<5> of a spring-controlled lever f<3> pivoted to the coin pocket f<1> and rocks the lever so as to bring its extremity f<4> into the path of a fixed projection f<x>, Fig. 10, thereby preventing the complete return of the coin pocket and the alinement of the coin slots e<5>, f<2>.
